KatySweet started - like so many food companies - in our founder’s home kitchen. Kay Carlton had a family recipe for Texas-style pecan pralines passed down from her grandmother. At every special occasion, Kay found herself making batches of creamy pecan pralines for friends and family.

In 1995, Kay decided to combine her love of business with her love of candy and founded KatySweet. One year later, she outgrew her home kitchen and moved into her first “real space” - a former bank building located on the square in La Grange. She and her staff converted the bank into a commercial kitchen, storing chocolate in the old bank vault - the coolest spot in the building. Every afternoon, the smell of cooking sugar, pecans, and vanilla would waft across the square, drawing in locals wanting the very freshest pralines, still warm – straight from the kitchen.

Word got out – and five years later Kay built a new commercial kitchen, designed from the ground up to produce the original family recipes using Kay’s time-tested method. To this day, we still use the best ingredients - so we can continue to make Kay’s recipes without losing the homemade taste and quality that got us started.

Fayetteville Area Heritage Museum was established on May 22, 1986.  It was founded by Janette Donaldson, Louis "Buddy" Polansky and his wife Irene.  Buddy, the visionary, dedicated his life to salvaging, collecting, and then preserving precious items from Fayetteville and the area during a time when "newer was better".  Buddy (pictured at the door) is gone, but his spirit survives.   In addition to being the Home of the Teddy Schultz Model Trains and Railroad Collection, the museum also houses Memorabilia from the Baca Band, remnants from the demolished St John Catholic Church circa 1911, and many other fascinating historic artifacts reflecting the area’s Czech, German, and African American Heritage.

The Wine Bar is located in the newly redecorated Grand Fayette Hotel on the Historic Square in Fayetteville, Texas. The warm and inviting atmosphere is the design of Joan Herring and Mary Quiros, who selected large-scaled original paintings and photographs to hang in the sedate gray room, and are accentuated with gallery-style lighting. The Wine Bar also has seating in the hotel's comfortable lobby, the Moravian Gallery in the next room, and along the street and in the patio during pleasant evenings.
